Understanding your aircraft marketing slots

Your Aircraft Marketing Slots page shows what you subscribe to with Avinode and how you're using it, all in one place, under Billing. 

This article explains what a marketing slot is, and how to think about it. The short version: you buy slots by aircraft category, not by individual tail numbers, which gives you flexibility.

What's an aircraft marketing slot?

A marketing slot is a spot for an aircraft to be active in the Avinode Marketplace within a specific aircraft category, such as Heavy Jet, Super Midsize, or Ultra Long Range.

Think of a slot as a seat. If you have five Heavy Jet slots, up to five of your Heavy Jet aircraft can be active in the Marketplace at the same time. Add a sixth Heavy Jet aircraft, and you'd need a sixth slot for it to become active.

The key thing: a slot belongs to a category, not to a particular aircraft.

Think in categories, not tails

This is the part that causes confusion, so it's important to state it clearly:

You're not paying for specific tail numbers. You're paying for capacity in each category. That means you can swap aircraft in and out of a category as your fleet changes: retire one Heavy Jet, add another, and what you pay stays the same, as long as you don't go over your slot count in that category.

So the question to ask isn't "is this exact aircraft covered?" It's "how many slots do I have in this category, and how many am I using?"

Where to find it

Go to Billing → Aircraft Marketing Slots. You'll see:

• Your current subscription — how many slots you have in each category, and what they cost.
• What's active — which of your aircraft are filling those slots right now.
• Open slots — capacity you're paying for that isn't being used yet.

You can also export the breakdown if you'd like to work with it outside Avinode.

How to read your slots

For each category, you'll see how many slots are filled and how many are open.

• Filled — an aircraft is active in that slot and visible to all Avinode members in the Marketplace.
• Open — you're paying for capacity in that category, but no aircraft is using it yet. If you'd like to put another eligible aircraft to work, or the numbers look off, get in touch and we'll help.

How an aircraft becomes active

An aircraft moves into a marketing slot in three steps:

1. It's on your certificate. The aircraft is listed on your AOC (for US Part 135 operators, your D085).
2. It has an Avinode profile. The aircraft is set up in Avinode and ready to list.
3. It's active in a slot. The aircraft is live in the Marketplace, filling one slot in its category.

Your Aircraft Marketing Slots page shows you where each aircraft sits along that path, handy for spotting aircraft that are ready to go but not yet active.

Common questions

Do my slots match my invoice? Yes, your subscription here reflects what you're billed for. If anything looks different, let us know, and we'll help you sort it.

One of my aircraft isn't showing as active — why? It's usually one of the three steps above: it may not have an Avinode profile yet, or there's no open slot in its category. Your page will show you which.

I have open slots I'm not using. What should I do? Contact your account manager or support@avinode.com, and we can activate another eligible aircraft in that category, or adjust your subscription if you'd prefer.
